Tasted this, the 8yo #37, at my recent visit to the Grenada Distillers Ltd (GDL). It’s a little unclear what #37 stands for. It was released in 2010 which is 37 years after Grenada’s independence, but most says it’s the celebration of that the distillery has been operational since 1937. Could be a combination of course, but most likely is the latter more correct cause 2014 another, 12yo, #37 was released. Nowadays, since the hurricane Ivan destroyed most of the sugarcane fields in 2004, they import molasses, mostly from Panama, for the production. The nose is fruity, sweet and spicy with scents of caramel and vanilla. At the palate it’s balanced, smooth, fruity, spicy, woody and sweet with flavors of toffee, banana, raisin, apricot, mineral, oak and nutmeg. The finish is medium long, smooth and peppery.
