Le Rum & Cane British West Indies XO, élaboré par l'embouteilleur indépendant Crucial Drinks, présente un riche profil d'arômes de banane et d'agrumes complété par de la vanille et des nuances subtilement épicées. Distillée à partir de mélasse et vieillie pendant 6 ans, cette édition limitée à 2 000 bouteilles offre un palais équilibré où l'on retrouve du miel et des épices, complétés par des notes de mélasse torréfiée. Avec un taux d'alcoolémie abordable de 43 %, il offre une finale moyenne et crémeuse qui est à la fois douce et réchauffante, ce qui en fait un choix accessible pour les nouveaux venus. Bien qu'elle offre une expérience agréable à siroter, certains utilisateurs la considèrent comme moins complexe, mais idéale pour une consommation décontractée ou comme base de cocktail.

Easy to drink. Nothing special. A fruity note in the nose with a bit of banana and citrus. In the mouth classic oak, vanilla and molasses with a bit of banana. This rum is from Barbados and T&T, but there is nothing what reminds me on T&T… Very unspectacular short finish.

This rum offers a pleasant introduction to the British rum style, making it a decent entry-level choice. The nosing opens with floral and citrusy notes, complemented by lime peel, candied fruits, and a touch of white pepper, hinting at its complex but light character. The taste leans towards a delicate balance of light spices, citrus, and cocoa, with a mild, natural sweetness. The finish is short, carrying mild woody and vanilla tones, which, while enjoyable, lack depth. Interestingly, the Barbados component of this blend is reportedly 100% pot still, as shared by Crucial Drinks’ international sales manager, which is not very usual for blends of this nature. While this adds a layer of intrigue, the rum still has a long way to go before reaching excellence. As a casual sipper, an introductory tasting sample, or even a cocktail base, it serves its purpose relatively well. However, those seeking complexity or boldness might find it lacking. A decent choice for beginners or light drinkers exploring the category.
The nose is a burst of freshly cut citrus with a subtle smokiness in the background. The palate is very sweet with punchy banana and molasses notes. Quite sharp. The finish is medium in length and has a creamy smokiness that is rather warming. It's very easy to drink. Probably the most of the four minis I got from Rum and Cane Merchants. Probably the one I'd buy a full bottle of.
