Release from the Dutch Van Wees who have been releasing whisky under the name The Ultimate for 30+ years now. They used an Imperial (closed Scottish Distillery) cask for this blended rum. Nose: quite Jamaican-y. Funky with a bite. Some rubber and chemicals. They might have used a Hampden for this. Some oak. Not necessarily sherry but the rubbernote could come from that. Fermented/esters. Lemon. Interesting juice. With time a get a hint of fudge, caramel, and chocolate (Guyana part?). A somewhat "warmer" influence. Taste: a bit velvety yet stingy on the tongue. A bit all over the place. Two distilleries fighting for attention. Wood/oak is present. Subtle sherry. Malty whisky (which is Imperial's style). Less fruity than the nose. A bit salty. The funk has been tempered. Peppery. It's definitely interesting stuff but also quite challenging because it's all over the place. I'd say in the taste the Guyana is more dominant (Versailles/Enmore is my guess).
Unfortunately, rather a bad example of blends. Quite artificial, sweet woody intense after gum banana, nutmeg, etc.. Makes unfortunately no fun
This is a favourite of mine, just as the whisky that has been in this cask before. Raspberry, orange, apple, banana, peach, raisin, nuts and vanilla. In the taste there's even a waxiness that these Imperials are known for.
