It was distilled in 2004 from Molasses with a Pot Still and then aged for 19 years. Was für abgefahrene Eckdaten! Bei so einer hihen abv stellt sich als erstes natürlich die Frage der Integration des Alkohols. Der Rum stand bis zum Verkosten ca. 2 Std. im Glas. Die Nase ist absolut nicht stechend, am Gaumen ist der Rum.auch nicht stechend, auch wenn hier und da doch eine gewisse Schärfe reinkommt. Alles in sehr kleinen Schlücken. Leider hängt über den Gewürzen und Früchten auf der Zunge und in der Nase eine Hülle. Bevor ich die Aromen zu genießen beginne tritt die Schärfe auf. Vielleicht muss ich da noch ein mal ran. Heute war das nicht die erwartete Jamaica Bombe, die wir schon von anderen Plantation Abfüllungen mit ähnlichen abv kennen. Vielen dank @Tom!
I opened the bottle on February 1st, straight after Dry January. First impression at that moment was that it was a bit of work after a month without alcohol. Cognac cask noticeable on the nose. Sweet at first, before the alcohol took over and the going dry/astringent. Once my tongue stopped tingling, there was a medicinal note to it. I could still taste it the next day. Yesterday I poured a bit at noon when making a sample with the intention to taste it in the evening, giving it lots of time to breathe. But in the evening I was exhausted from the flu and forgotten about it until today. That being said, the nose is more elegant and the alcohol more integrated now but still with a burn to it. Cognac cask present with stone fruits in the profile, and still the medicinal note on the back of the palate. The astringency has backed down quite a bit. So it’s fair to say that it needs A LOT of time in the glass. The finish is long, woody and dry. 8.4 is a starting point, so it could maybe go as high as 8.8-8.9 in the future with some oxidation, but I doubt that it could ever reach a 9 for me.
Ve sklence jsem to nechal dlouho odpočívat a vůně je parádní. Alkoholová akorát, náznak koňaku, tropické ovoce a estery s mentolovým přesahem. Chuťově mi chvíli vrtalo hlavou, co mi to připomíná. To spojení celkem dlouhého finišem s jamajskými estery dost navozuje produkci ze Sv. Lucie. Po delším odpočinku tam vysoké abv vůbec nevadí. Sice to není moc komplexní, ale ve výsledku hezký kousek.
