Blind tasting: my nose picks up tropical fruits, citrus aromas, apricots, plums, black tea and light ester aromas. A thoroughly complex nose that definitely points to a British candidate at drinking strength. The nose makes a promising impression. After a longer period, oak, some vanilla, glue and slightly burnt/caramelized sugar are added. From the palate to the finish, the rum changes completely. Beginning with a slight sweetness of tropical fruits and honey, transitioning into a faint but pleasant tart and lemony flavor to a finish characterized by peach, black tea and tart strong herbs. The herbs remain on the palate for a long time and are still perceptible in the mouth despite repeated sips. A good rum that has probably gained in profile due to the dilution, but has probably hardly lost any of its body and intensity. The best candidate in this round. As I probably don't know that many rums from this distillery, the estimated "age corridor" for this bottling is somewhat larger at 10-15 years. The drinking strength should be around 45-47%. The crucial question of the origin took me 3 tasting sessions this time, as I wasn't quite sure - probably also because I simply don't know too many bottlings from this distillery or this vintage. In the first tasting session, I had a strong bias towards Jamaica / Monymusk, but the next two tasting sessions finally took me to Fiji in 2001. Either way, this rum deserves to be enjoyed. 84 points
