Quel est le goût de ce rhum ?
Le rhum Mezan Trinidad 2003 est une version limitée intrigante de Trinidad, avec seulement 3000 bouteilles disponibles. Distillé à partir de mélasse et vieilli pendant 16 ans, ce rhum affiche un taux d'alcoolémie de 46 %. L'arôme est caractérisé par des notes de bois, de vanille et de fruits rouges, tandis que le palais offre une essence épicée et boisée avec des notes de cerise. Certains utilisateurs trouvent le goût complexe mais légèrement surpuissant en alcool, avec un mélange de notes amères et sucrées qui le rend plus adapté aux cocktails qu'à une dégustation pure. Malgré des arômes prometteurs, la finale est décrite comme courte et légère. Ce rhum Mezan est souvent loué pour son nez mais a reçu des avis mitigés concernant son palais et son équilibre général.

19.12.2020 Nice tasting shortly before Christmas in a private area of the bar. Unfortunately this very old bar closed down in 2023. Notes Medium dark colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, leather, workshop, spice, light fruit, cherry. Palate Light, light wood, cherry, light caramel, nutmeg, light floral. Finish Short to medium, light wood, naturally sweet, dried fruit, light, spice.
Only for coctails, maybe....
8,2:On the nose , we find a molasses rum with roundly medicinal accents. Aromatic herbs, sometimes resinous, sometimes chlorophyll, bring depth and freshness. The toasted oak takes us back to a little more familiar territory, as do the slightly tart red fruits which follow, burnt sugar . With airing, an icing sugar. We then bounce from one marshmallow to another, then coming across a soft vanilla or powdered strawberries. Once again, the lightly toasted white wood brings us its slightly more robust aromas with dried, nutty fruits. 8,5:The palate is coated by a woody and caramelized wave, with a fairly pleasant concentration, then surprisingly a nice wave of grapefruit. Vanilla envelops a pinch of roasted spices, then we find notes of slightly resinous molasses. Nuts are caught in a brittle but nevertheless delicious nougatine and dried, poached fruits. After long time, blackcurrant heavily.... 8,2:The finish is fine and light, with caramelized and dark fruits. There is a small layer of smoke.
An open bottle for this tasting. The nose is light, diluted but with aromas of earth, bourbon, vegetal and pear. On the palate, the aromas of the nose are absent. It's flat and watery. The finish is very short, with a lingering vegetal edge. The empty glass is on the bourbon. A disappointing Trinidad rum, the nose is fine but the palate and finish are flat and diluted. Should be very pleasant in mixology.
