The "Single Barrel Rum" was produced in Dominican Republic at the Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos distillery. It was selected and bottled by the independent bottler Liquid Art. It was distilled in 2010 from Molasses with a Column Still and then aged for 8 years. The rum is bottled at cask strength and has an ABV of 62,4%. My first and only Dominican at cask strength. The nose is wonderful, a successful mixture of fruits, mainly orange and date, plus baking spices, pleasant wood aromas with the sweetness of caramel popcorn. The palate is fierce, the alcohol hits hard, 62.4% can rarely be hidden well ;-) with sweet wood, overly strong roasted aromas, leather, espresso. Burnt, bacony aromas remain. Conclusion: Great nose, on the palate the burnt barrel almost overwhelms everything else. I almost always drink it with a good shot of water, which makes it more pleasant.
Le nez est plutôt complexe sur les dattes, le café et le sirop d'érable (me restait-il encore du Eleven Canada dans mon verre !?). Une touche de caramel au beurre doucement épicé complète ce nez exotique et invitant. En bouche c’est surprenant car je retrouve comme du Cointreau (liqueur d’orange). Mais pas que évidemment, il y a des épices, de la vanille et à nouveau du sirop d’érable en fil conducteur de la soirée. La finale est douce et moyennement longue sur le zeste d’orange. Cette distillerie m’était parfaitement méconnue et je trouve ce distillat très atypique avec ce profil concentré sur l’orangette.
